WordPress 3.0 Features

Since it’s creation in 2003, WordPress has rapidly grown and has became of the most popular pieces of open source software available on the web. Starting off as a blogging platform many Web Designer now use WordPress as a comprehensive Content Management System, based on it’s adaptability, userfriendly admin panel and the inexhaustible amount of plug-ins available.

We are going to take this chance to have a quick look over some of the new features available from WordPress’s next major update, WordPress 3.0, scheduled to be released next month.

Multi-site Management

Similar to Magento, you will now be able to link different WordPress websites to one admin panel, allowing you to manage multiple sites from one place.

Custom Post Types

This will allow designers to customise the WordPress admin panel to their client’s exact requirements by adding new post types, this is great feature for WordPress CMS lovers.

Easy Page Order Management

WordPress has been promising to improve the current page order settings for some time, in this new release they are implementing a great UI developed by WooThemes that will allow users to easily manage and edit different menus on their website.

Choose Username and Password During Installation

One thing that has always bugged me about WordPress in the past has been the lack of this functionality, in WordPress 3.0 you can choose your Username and Password during the installation process instead of having to change them at a later date.

twenty-tenNew Default Theme

Although I feel slightly heavyhearted to say goodbye to the existing WordPress default theme, the refresh has been overdue now for sometime. In WordPress 3.0 the default theme has been completely re-designed and developed from the ground up, offering a cleaner layout and showcases some of WordPress most impressive features from the get go, the new default theme is called Twenty Ten.
