Market your do follow blog.

You may have noticed the ‘u comment, I follow” badge in the sidebar, that’s right SJL have joined the do follow movement inspired by Randa Clay and have removed the ‘no follow’ attribute from the SJL blog.

The ‘no follow’ tag was created by Google as a way of cutting down on comment spam, it basically removes all relevancy, page rank, site’s status etc from the link. Google hoped that by implementing the ‘no follow’ tag into major blogging platforms such as WordPress, that spammers would move away from posting spam filled comments on blogs. However, in the time I have had this blog as well as other web design and logo design blogs, I still receive hundreds of comments advertising ‘penis enlargement pills’ as well as other crazy things.

The way I see it, is that as long as you have a good spam plugin installed, why not reward your reader’s loyalty? It will also help bring a lot more people to your blog, maybe the majority being SEO companies trying to build links for their clients, but at least your articles will be reaching a wider audience.

Advice for WordPress owner

Install the Akismet spam filter

Make you blog ‘do follow‘, I recommend the Semiologic WordPress Do Follow Plugin

Now market your blog…

There are loads of do follow directories and search engines for you to submit your blog to, this will bring a huge amount traffic towards your blog and your post will soon start to pick up a page rank.

I have listed a bunch of do follow directories and search engines below…

http://www.dofollowblogs.com/

http://www.inlineseo.com/dofollowdiver/

http://w3ec.com/dofollow/

http://www.dofollowforums.com/

Doing this may feel like the people posting on your articles, don’t care about your thoughts, just the link you are providing. This is half true, but most self respecting SEO firms take the time to read and comment appropriately

I’ve seen in the last year (mostly) a big do-follow movement of bloggers, who preffer to offer something in exchange for the people spend their time and read / comment on their blogs.
Some bloggers who switched to do-follow blogs also declared that they noticed a nice increase of visitors and comments. Also, a big increase of spammers, but that’s another story.

Nice, I think it could be interesting to add some more entries following this one, and probably it’s not only me having this opinion. Cheers!

Glad to have another dofollow blog to visit!:-

Your blog is already doing so well so this would be more of a “thank you” to your readers, I guess.

I don’t think no follow tags cut down spam at all. The spammers just keep on spamming don’t they? I get their spam comments all the time in my askimet folder. The comments usually don’t make any sense at all and include a lot of links. I get them everyday so I guess the whole ‘no follow’ thing is a failure.

I totally agree that you should reward your commentators! However I totally disagree with spamming. It is a pity that a few ruin it all for all of us, and this really does apply to this type of spamming, which ends up mainly being automated by computers.

Amey Says:

Hi, Great post. I truly agree with you. In my experience no follow does not decrease the amount of spam posts.
